The Center on Monday let the Supreme Court know that the Aadhaar card isn’t obligatory for enlistment on CoWIN portal for Covid-19 immunization.
A seat of Justices DY Chandrachud and Surya Kant was educated by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare that one of the nine character records including visa, driving permit, PAN card, citizen’s card, apportion card can be delivered for inoculation.
The pinnacle court observed the accommodation and discarded a request recorded by Siddharth Shankar Sharma who guaranteed that the Aadhaar card was in effect compulsorily demanded for controlling Covid immunization on the CoWIN portal.

The peak court had on October 1, 2021 gave notice to the Center on the PIL.
“Compliant with this current court’s organization dated October 1, 2021, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has documented a sworn statement which records that the Aadhaar card isn’t compulsory for enlistment on CoWIN portal and one of the nine character archives can be created… It is additionally recorded in the sworn statement that an arrangement has been made for other class of people who might not have character cards in their ownership like jail detainees, prisoners at psychological well-being foundations, and so forth,” the bench said.
