Bijapur, June 22
A nearby BJP functionary has been murdered by suspected Maoists in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur area, police said on Thursday.
The body of Kaka Arjun (52) was found on Wednesday evening on Kongupalli-Ilmidi street in Bijapur, found more than 400 km from state capital Raipur, they said.
Arjun was the secretary of BJP Bijapur locale unit’s Planned Tribe wing, as per the party.
The resistance BJP within the state named it as a “focused on” murdering and requested a high-level test into it whereas claiming that Maoists had assurance of the administering Congress.
However, the Congress condemned the occurrence and said the BJP ought to not politicize it.
Arjun, who served as the sarpanch (head) of Ilmidi town panchayat from 2016-2020, had gone to Semaldodi town with his spouse on his bike after being called by somebody at around 10 am on Wednesday, Bijapur Extra Director of Police Chandrakant Gavarna said.
After coming to there, he dropped his spouse and went to a woodland beside five unidentified people, dressed as civilians. When he did not return for long, his spouse came back domestic, he said.
Later, the body was found lying on the street, the official said.
A flyer issued within the title of the Madded range committee of Maoists was found at the spot, claiming Arjun was related with the BJP since 2014 and was working against the banned Communist Party of India (Maoist), police said.
The flyer said any individual related with the BJP found to be working against the CPI (Maoist) will meet the same destiny, they said.
A look operation was beneath way within the zone, the police said.
