Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to the Indian community in Paris on Thursday. He said that India is a democratic country and a great example of diversity. He urged the Indian community in France to persuade the French people to visit India and see its diverse culture.
The Prime Minister made a big announcement saying that India’s UPI (unified payment interface) will be used in France starting from the Eiffel Tower.
He also told the Indian community in Paris that India is the first country in the world where money sent by its people living abroad has reached over $100 billion.
The Prime Minister said that India’s strength and role in the world are changing quickly. People believed that India would become a $5 trillion economy soon. He said that the connection between people is the most important part of the partnership between India and France. He remembered how he signed up for a course at Alliance Francaise 40 years ago.
The Prime Minister said that India is a strong country because it not only has a democracy but also celebrates diversity.
The Prime Minister also praised the Punjab soldiers for the sacrifices they made in France.
A hundred years ago, Indian soldiers were killed in France while doing their duty to protect France.
The PM said that the Punjab Regiment, a group of soldiers who fought in the war, will be in the National Day Parade on Friday.
On Thursday, the Prime Minister started his trip to France with successful meetings with the French counterparts Elisabeth Borne and Gerard Larcher. They talked about finding new ways to strengthen India’s cooperation and strategic partnership with France.
