New Delhi, August 4.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi recently informed the Supreme Court that the real last name of ex-Gujarat minister Purnesh Modi, who had filed a defamation lawsuit against him, is not Modi. Instead, he belongs to the Modh Vanika Samaj community.
Senior advocate Abhishek Singhvi, who is representing Gandhi, told a panel of three judges that his client is not a serious criminal and has not been found guilty in any case, even though there have been several cases filed against him by BJP workers.
The highest court is listening to a request by Gandhi, who is upset with the decision of the Gujarat High Court. The high court said no to Gandhi’s request to delay his punishment in a case where he insulted someone by using the name “Modi. ”
Purnesh Modi took legal action in 2019 against Gandhi for saying that people with the surname Modi are all thieves. Gandhi made this comment during a speech at an election event in Kolar, Karnataka on April 13, 2019. Rewrite this text using simpler words.
