Chandigarh, on August 28th.
The Minister of State for Science and Technology, Jitendra Singh, provided information on Saturday about the Gaganyaan mission of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).
The minister said the testing for ISRO’s mission will start in early October.
He mentioned that the next part of the Gaganyaan mission would include sending a robot named ‘Vyommitra’ to outer space.
After completing two stages, between one and three astronauts will be sent as part of the manned mission in the Gaganyaan project. “I believe this could begin in the year 2024,” Singh stated.
ISRO is developing a robot called ‘Vyommitra’ that looks like a female human. The name comes from two Sanskrit words: ‘vyoma’ meaning space and ‘mitra’ meaning friend. The robotic human-like figure was shown for the first time on January 22, 2020 at a conference about space travel in Bengaluru.
The Gaganyaan mission is a project to send three astronauts into space for three days and then bring them back to Earth safely. They will orbit around 400 kilometers above the Earth’s surface.
