Minister Jitendra Singh talked about the latest news on India’s Gaganyaan mission, which is led by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).
The minister said the tests for ISRO’s mission will start in early October.
He said the next part of the Gaganyaan mission would be to send ‘Vyommitra’ into space.
After the first two phases, a small group of astronauts, up to three people, will be sent on a mission in space as part of the Gaganyaan project. Singh said that he believes this might begin in 2024.
‘Vyommitra’ is a robot that looks like a female and is being made by ISRO. The name comes from two Sanskrit words, ‘vyoma’ (meaning space) and ‘mitra’ (meaning friend). The humanoid was shown to the public for the first time on January 22, 2020 at a symposium about space travel and exploration in Bengaluru.
Gaganyaan mission is a plan to send three people into space for three days in a 400-kilometer circle around the earth, and then bring them back safely.
