The NHAI in India has prohibited the use of motorcycles, auto-rickshaws, tractors, non-motorized vehicles, hydraulic trailer vehicles, and quadricycles on the Bengaluru-Mysuru expressway starting from August 1.
The authorities made a decision because there were more accidents happening on the expressway.
The NHAI, which is owned by the government, created a group of experts in road safety to check the safety of the Bengaluru-Mysuru expressway. Many accidents have happened on this road since it opened in March, which has made people worried about the safety of those using it.
According to a notification from the NHAI on July 12, fast-moving vehicles can be dangerous for slower vehicles like bikes, three-wheelers, and other slow-moving vehicles such as non-motorized vehicles or tractors. This is because of the difference in speed and it can affect road safety.
“Now, in accordance with the authority given by section 35 of The Control of National Highways (Land and Traffic) Act, 2002, it is decided that certain types of vehicles are not allowed to use the Bangalore-Mysuru Access Controlled Highway (NH-275). ”
Motorcycles (including scooters and other types of vehicles with two wheels), three-wheelers (including electric carts and electric rickshaws), non-motorized vehicles, special tractors with or without trailers, vehicles with multiple axles and hydraulic trailers, and quadri-cycles, as mentioned in the notification.
The NHAI said that starting from August 1, the notification will be in effect. They also mentioned that there are other routes and roads available for people with similar types of vehicles to use.
The NHAI says that this highway was built for high-speed travel. The speed limit for vehicles on this highway is 80km/hour.
The Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway project, which is 118 kilometers long, was opened by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in March this year.
The project is worth Rs 8,480 crore and involves widening and improving a road connecting Bengaluru, Nidaghatta, and Mysuru. It is expected to bring about social and economic progress in the area.
