All Assembly and parliamentary constituencies in the state were redrawn according to the 2001 Census. “The only data used for this purpose is the Census numbers from 200. ” Some parliamentary and Assembly constituencies have been given “paired names” like Darrang-Udalgiri (parliamentary constituency), Hajo-Sualkuchi, Boko-Chaygaon, Nagaon-Batadraba, Bhowanipur-Sorbhog and Algapur-Katlichera. This was done because the public requested it, according to the poll panel. The number of SC Assembly seats has increased from eight to nine and the number of ST Assembly seats has increased from 16 to 19.
