The Minister of State for Science and Technology, Jitendra Singh, spoke about the progress of India’s space mission called Gaganyaan, which is being carried out by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).
The minister said that the testing for ISRO’s mission will start in early October.
The person said that during the second part of the Gaganyaan mission, they will send ‘Vyommitra’ into space.
After these two stages are completed, between one and three astronauts will be sent as part of the crewed mission of the Gaganyaan project. Singh said that he believes this may begin in the year 2024.
‘Vyommitra’ is a robot that looks like a female and is being created by ISRO. The name comes from two Sanskrit words, “vyoma” which means “space” and “mitra” which means “friend”. The first unveiling of the humanoid happened on January 22, 2020 in Bengaluru at the Human Spaceflight and Exploration symposium.
The Gaganyaan mission is a project to send three astronauts into space and have them orbit 400 kilometers above the earth for three days. After that, they will come back to earth safely.
