Manipur Police filed a complaint stating that Assam Rifles stopped their car after a fight between both groups last week.
Security sources criticized the FIR as unfair and claimed that the Assam Rifles was given the responsibility to preserve the buffer zones between Kuki and Meitiei areas by their command headquarters.
The police filed a report on August 5th saying that the Assam Rifles stopped their cars on the Kwakta Gothol road in Bishnupur district.
The report said that the Assam Rifles stopped their workers from going ahead when the state police were going along Pholjang Road and Kwakta to search for Kuki militants in relation to a case involving illegal arms.
The police said that 9 Assam Rifles stopped them because they parked their ‘Casper’ vehicle to block the road.
Defence sources said that Assam Rifles was given a task by command headquarters to maintain the safety of the buffer zones between Kuki and Meitiei areas.
Sources at the Imphal secretariat said that the Army was addressing the matter with the state government in a very serious way at a high level.
